The Houston Texans are not happy with the contract negotiations between Deshaun Watson and the team, and they’ve taken their frustrations out on Twitter.

The Houston Texans Continue to Show off Extreme Incompetency and Stubbornness During the Latest Deshaun Watson Negotiations is a sports article about how the Houston Texans have been stubborn in negotiations with quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The Houston Texans had a strong start to the 2021 NFL season in Week 1. The Texans cruised to a 37-21 win against the new-look Jacksonville Jaguars, spearheaded by Urban Meyer and Trevor Lawrence.

Tyrod Taylor, the Texans’ new starting quarterback, looked especially good. The journeyman quarterback threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns. With many analysts expecting Houston to end the season with the poorest record in the NFL, the Texans had a promising start.

However, conditions in H-town are still nasty behind the scenes.

The Texans’ newest rumored asking price for quarterback Deshaun Watson is absurdly expensive.

The Texans are celebrating their win, but Deshaun Watson’s shadow continues to hang over the team. There are 22 ongoing legal cases against the former NFL quarterback alleging sexual assault and improper conduct (according to ESPN). He is not expected to play this season.

The Texans, on the other hand, are trying to salvage some value from him. The only issue is that Houston is massively overvaluing a player who is involved in severe legal issues.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Texans are seeking a package of six players and high-level draft choices in exchange for Watson:

“League sources tell ESPN that the Houston Texans wanted a combination of six players plus NFL draft choices from clubs interested in dealing for star quarterback Deshaun Watson this summer,” writes Schefter. “Whether it was a one-player, five-draft-pick deal or two players, four-draft-pick package, the Texans refused to move from their Watson trade price…”

It would be very dangerous to trade for Deshaun Watson.

There have been a few NFL clubs ready to discuss a possible Watson deal with the Texans for what it’s worth. Because of their draft capital in 2022, the Philadelphia Eagles were considered the frontrunners to sign him. However, if Jalen Hurts has a strong first week, they may decide to hold off on making a quarterback move.

Watson was also linked to the Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins this summer. Both teams were victorious in their Week 1 matches.

Teams have shown interest in meeting Houston’s high asking price, according to Schefter, but only if restrictions were attached to the draft choices about Watson’s legal status. The Texans have thus far refused to talk about conditional draft compensation. They want the whole shebang.

While the Texans are right in trying to extract as much value as possible from Watson, they must recognize the realities of the situation. No one is willing to part with six vulnerable assets for a quarterback facing the accusations that Watson is now facing. If the Texans are serious about getting rid of Watson, they must lower their expectations to a manageable level.

What can we anticipate from the Houston Texans in the future?

Deshaun Watson, the Texans’ starting quarterback, has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Jacksonville. On the injury report, he was classified as “not injury related.”

The second option available to Houston is to keep the course.

The Texans have no qualms about holding Watson for the remainder of the season without allowing him to play. The goal is that by the end of the year, they will have a better understanding of Watson’s legal situation and will be able to better arrange a trade.

Of course, if Watson gets banned from the NFL anytime soon, this approach may easily backfire.

In any case, if Houston wants to trade Watson, they’ll have to come back down to earth. He’s a terrific quarterback, but sexual assault charges are enough to keep most NFL teams away – and rightfully so.
